As most of you know, HBO already has an iOS app for viewing content, called HBO GO. But it doesn’t support AirPlay, meaning it can’t be watched on a TV via the set-top box…(...)

Zeppelin Knot
For some reason this amazingly useful knot has been forgotten. Like many knots, it is stronger than a square knot, but it is unique in that it can always be untied easily, even after it has been loaded heavily. In other words, it will not “jam”. It is also easy to tie and easy to verify.
Supposedly it is called the Rosendahl or “Zeppelin” knot because American airship commander Charles Rosendahl insisted on its use in mooring lines. Airships can put tremendous transient loads on those lines, so they needed strong knots that could still be untied in a hurry.
Instructions on how to tie it can be found at Mother Earth News, and also at Wikipedia.

The Passbook application that debuted in iOS 6 has been tweaked in today’s public release of iOS 6.1 to permanently display a new home page that contains a button that will link users to the App Store to view a list of Passbook-compatible apps. The new home page is entitled "Passbook is the simplest way to get all your passes in one place."

Running Multiple Instances Of the Same App On Mac (MacMost Now 819)
http://macmost.com/e-819 For most apps you can simply open multiple windows or tabs to edit or view separate documents. But some apps only let you have one window open. Sometimes when using apps like Safari, it is useful to be able to isolate windows from each other in case one crashes. Learn how to use the Terminal window to launch multiple instances of the same app. Learn how to then use Automator to create an app that will do this for you automatically. | From: macmostvideo Views: 33 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 2 ratings | |

Apple releases iOS 6.1 update
Get ready to reboot all your iOS devices. Apple on Monday released iOS 6.1, the latest update to its mobile operating system. The 6.1 update includes a number of minor changes to the software.
Most prominently, Apple says that the update brings LTE compatibility to 36 new iPhone carriers and 23 new iPad carriers around the world, allowing users of compatible devices—specifically, the iPhone 5, third- and fourth-generation iPads, and iPad mini—to take advantage of the faster wireless speeds.
In addition to the LTE upgrades, Apple also tweaked two of its services: iTunes Match and Siri. Users of iOS 6 who were disappointed by the removal of the ability to download individual songs to their iOS device will be utterly delighted to find that it’s been restored as of this update. And Siri’s picked up a welcome new skill: You can now use Apple’s virtual assistant to purchase movie tickets via Fandango. That feature’s only available in the U.S., however, and requires that you have the app installed—if you don’t, Siri will prompt you to do so, much as it does with OpenTable.

Lastly—but presumably not leastly—there’s also a new button that lets you reset the Advertising Identifier, which you can find under Settings -> General -> About -> Advertising. What is the Advertising Identifier? Apple’s glad you asked:

CrunchWeek: Apple Earnings Land With A Thud, Twitter Launches Videos With Vine, Quora As A Blog Platform

Another busy week in tech has come and gone, so you know what that means: It’s time for CrunchWeek, the time when a few of us writers talk about the most interesting stories of the past seven days.
In this edition, Leena Rao, Anthony Ha and I (beaming into the TechCrunch TV studio via Skype as I was a bit under the weather) discuss how Apple’s first quarter earnings report has gotten a very chilly reception from Wall Street, Twitter’s big move into video sharing with the launch of Vine, and Quora’s recent expansion from its Q&A core to full-on blogging platform.
